STYLE ADVICE

DO:

  • A neutral or earth toned palette often works well for newborn sessions so the focus stays on the baby.
  • Coordinate your outfits for a coherent look.  Start by putting together an outfit you really like and build coordinating outfits from there.
  • Think: textures, layers, and fabrics with movement!
  • Flowy dresses or blouses photograph well and are often very forgiving in those early weeks postpartum.
  • Outdoor: dress for the weather
  • In-home: barefoot or just socks works well

BABY

  • Dress your baby in something neutral or earth toned (onesies or sleepers work well).
  • Gather some simple/ timeless swaddles.
  • If your baby uses a pacifier, have a neutral colored one on hand.

TRY TO AVOID:

  • matching exactly
  • fluorescent colors, writing, graphics, and logos
  • bold plaid and thin/tight stripes or patterns as they can appear strange to the camera
  • wearing athletic sneakers

COLOR SCHEMES

-Earth tones and neutrals all photograph well. Off white/cream often photographs better than stark white as white can pull different tones making it look more blue, etc.
-If you need more inspiration for outfits, check out StyledByWi on Instagram. She has great color schemes and even some links to items (find them in her LTK Closet linked below).

"DAY OF" HELPFUL TIPS

  • Plan plenty of time into your day to get you/your family ready for your photo session.  Feeling happy and relaxed will make for better photos!
  • Make sure everyone is fed. Full stomachs typically make everyone happier!
  • During your photo session, we will take the lead from your baby. If your baby needs to be changed or fed, that’s fine!  This is a relaxed session.
  • You are welcome to gather some special items to personalize your photo session.
  • Have fun with your loved ones!  The most memorable images are often the ones in which you are interacting with each other.  That’s when the most natural expressions and smiles occur.

OUTDOOR

  • Do not wear glasses that tint in the sun.  If you have another pair of glasses, wear those for your session or wear frames without lenses to avoid glare.
  • If you have little ones, consider changing them into their photoshoot outfit when you arrive. Be sure to arrive early!

IN-HOME

  • Please be sure there is access to window light in different rooms. I will look for spaces with great light to create your images. I might move things around, but I’ll be sure to return them!
  • A variety of spaces may be used (nursery, master bedroom, living room, etc.), so be sure to declutter a bit.
